Message from the President

“Hearts Leap in Shintoshin —
Let’s Create Activities to Remember!”

Secretary: 笹川 敏幸

Since its founding in 1988, the Rotary Club of Tokyo Shintoshin has walked alongside the city of Shinjuku, building a wealth of service activities and friendships.

We continue activities that connect our community and the world, including disaster-preparedness education, environmental beautification, youth support and international service. What drives all of this is the trust and friendship among our members.
Rotary has the power to bring people together across generations and professions, so that they can learn from and inspire one another.
In times of rapid change, the connections between people are more valuable than ever.

In the 2026–27 Rotary year, under our theme “Hearts Leap in Shintoshin — Let’s Create Activities to Remember!”, we want to pass our spirit on to the next generation.
Bringing smiles to our community.
Sharing our dreams with friends.
And achieving together what no one could do alone.
We believe that these steps, taken one by one, build a better future.
The Rotary Club of Tokyo Shintoshin will keep moving forward through service and fellowship, carefully nurturing the bonds between people.
We warmly invite you to join us and enjoy new encounters and challenges.

2026–27 Rotary Year

President 内川 晃一 / Secretary 笹川 敏幸

Our Club Meetings

We meet every Wednesday from 12:30 at Hyatt Regency Tokyo. Each meeting features a talk by a guest speaker from outside the club.
If a meeting interests you, please apply to visit or to attend as a make-up.
* The floor where the meeting is held may change. On the day, please check the information board in the hotel lobby.

* A make-up means attending another club’s meeting to make up for missing your own club’s meeting.

What We Are
Doing Now

Service to our community and fellowship among members are both part of everyday club life.

What We Have Sustained,
in Numbers

Rather than waving big banners, we have valued steadily continuing what we set out to do.

  • 1988

    Founded 38 years ago

Based in Shinjuku, we have kept our activities going without a break.

  • 56

    Current members

Our members range from their 30s to their 90s and come from many different professions.

  • 1,691

    Club meetings held

Every Wednesday we have built up an hour of talks and dining together.

  • 61

    Service projects to date

From local clean-ups and disaster-preparedness education to building schools overseas.

What Changes
When You Join

Here is what our members say actually changed after they joined.
Please visit a meeting first and then decide whether we are a good fit for you.

  • 01

    Friends across professions

People of different professions and generations come together. You gain people you can talk to about things that are hard to raise at work or to ask others in your own industry.

  • 02

A fresh look at your own work

Rotary has the idea of Vocational Service. It gives you a chance to think again about whom your work is helping.

  • 03

A scale no one reaches alone

Projects too big for one person can take shape as a club, both in our community and overseas.

  • 04

    Joining something that has lasted

You become one of those who hand 38 years of activity on to the next generation. It means gaining a role, not a title.

Questions Before
You Join

Frequently asked questions before joining, such as membership dues and attendance.

  • What kind of club is Rotary?
Rotary Club is the world's first club organization dedicated to fellowship and service. Its defining feature is a focus on serving people around the world through one's profession.
Members aim to deepen bonds with one another, pursue personal growth, and use their professional skills to serve their communities and the world.
  • What is the atmosphere of the club like?
It is a club where members interact freely and warmly, regardless of seniority.
The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, allowing people of all ages to connect with one another.
  • What is the Tokyo Shintoshin Rotary Club?
We belong to District 2580. The club has 56 members, with a wide range of ages from their 30s to their 90s all actively participating.
  • What do regular club activities look like?
Regular meetings are held in principle every Wednesday from 12:30 to 13:30 at the Hyatt Regency in Shinjuku.
Members share information and network over lunch. The first half of the meeting covers club activity reports and announcements, while the second half features a "vocational talk" — a 30-minute speech by a member or guest expert.
In addition, there are Christmas family gatherings and interest group activities to deepen fellowship.
  • What kinds of interest group activities are there?
There is a wine appreciation group.
Members also enjoy fellowship trips together.
  • Is attendance required every time?
There is no requirement to attend every meeting or activity.
A minimum attendance rate of 50% or make-up attendance is required. While consistent participation deepens the club's sense of unity and learning, you are welcome to join flexibly around your work and personal schedule.
We value the spirit of "participate as much as you can, and support each other."
  • What are the membership fees?
There is an initiation fee, an annual membership fee and a Foundation contribution.
The annual fee covers the actual costs of lunches at the Hyatt Regency, meeting expenses, and administrative operations.
  • Are there any qualifications or requirements for membership?
Any man who is in good physical and mental health and agrees with the principles of Rotary is welcome to join.
However, membership requires a referral from a current club member, so if you do not know any members, please contact our secretariat.
  • What is the procedure for joining?
After submitting your application form, please attend a meeting or gathering as a visitor with your referrer and have an interview with the club president. Following the interview, your membership will be reviewed at the board meeting held once a month. Once approved by the board, all members are notified, and if no objections are raised, membership is granted.
After paying the initiation fee and prorated dues, your membership is confirmed, and at the next meeting the president will present you with a membership pin while members welcome you with applause.
  • Can I drive to the meetings?
    Yes, you can.

About the Rotary Club
of Tokyo Shintoshin

We were founded in Shinjuku in September 1988. For 38 years since, we have continued community service and fellowship among members, centered on our weekly meeting.
Rather than having done anything special, it may be closer to say that we have kept doing what we decided to do.

  • 01

    Shinjuku, 1988

Founded in September 1988, we have been active in Shinjuku ever since.

  • 02

    Locally and overseas

Disaster-preparedness education at elementary schools and tree planting in parks in Shinjuku; building an elementary school in Cambodia and providing wells in Nepal.

  • 03

    Meeting every Wednesday

Our weekly meeting is the heart of our activities: about 60 minutes of dining and a talk. Many ideas start here.
