Donation of Disposable Diapers to an Infant Home

Community Service Committee Chair 和田佳久 On November 5, 2020, we donated disposable diapers to Futaba Infant Home as part of the Shinjuku 5 Clubs Joint Project. 高橋 and 門間 accompanied me that day. Once again, Director 都留 received us, gave us a tour of the facility, and told us about the current situation of the infant home. In addition to Type 1 services such as institutional protection, the home also provides Type 2 services supporting families at home, and over the past 10 years it has actively developed a child-rearing support program called “Home-Start.” In this program, trained local volunteers visit families with preschool children to offer advice on child-rearing and housework and to work alongside them, with the aim of preventing the isolation of child-rearing families and identifying families in need of support at an early stage. This activity receives a subsidy from the city, but we were told it is not sufficient, and we felt the need for support. 高橋 told Director 都留, “Please let us know whatever you need.” Our committee wishes to continue to value the opportunity to visit Futaba Infant Home in order to “accurately understand needs and carry out truly needed service activities.”
