Fireside Meeting Group 2

Held on Tuesday, March 5, at Toyama Hamasaku in Nihonbashi Toyama-kan.
The 10 participants were President 半場慎一, Member 葛城良二, Member 金田哲夫, Member 髙橋一博, Member 深山雅也, Member 内川晃一, Member 本多良美, Member 青木宏義, Member 青木隆政, and 黒田康之.
Due to a historically poor catch, only one seasonal firefly squid per person could be served, but thanks to Toyama's local cuisine and all-you-can-drink local sake, the conversation flowed and it was an enjoyable gathering.
This time the theme was “Talking about the next 10 years of the Shintoshin Rotary Club.” Beginning with Member 葛城良二's powerful declaration, “I will definitely still be a member 10 years from now!!”, everyone spoke about the next 10 years from many different angles.

• We want to always be a leading club that serves as a model for other clubs.
• To lead Rotary, members in their 40s and 50s need to serve as President and energize the club.
• Build a culture that gives members the chance to serve as President or Secretary within a few years of joining, and establish a model of young presidents.
• Recruit young new members to avoid aging and maintain the current average age.
• We want to be a club where, after serving as President or Secretary, members return to being regular members and past presidents staff the reception desk.
• A club where members can remain for life. It is sad when members leave due to age.
• It may be worth considering annual dues based on years of membership or contributions.
• The appeal of our senior members is the appeal of the club. A good atmosphere makes a good club.
• Become a club that can say — and that others will say — that Shintoshin represents the district.

Many other thoughts were shared as well. There were also many topics related to Toyama Prefecture; I, the group leader and a Toyama native, got into such good spirits that I drank a bit too much, which I now regret, but it was a very meaningful gathering that left me with nothing but excitement for the next 10 years.
