On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, 13 of us visited Ishizaka Inc. to tour its recycling plant and its satoyama experience course.
The tour went beyond our image of an industrial waste treatment business, and we enjoyed seeing tangible initiatives: environmentally friendly operations, a safe and secure workplace for employees, and activities that foster understanding among local residents.
The company has also purchased forests around the recycling plant that had been devastated by illegal dumping, and while restoring them as a place for communication with the local community, it has planned programs that children can enjoy as well.
Finally, President 石坂典子 spoke to us about the responsibility to produce, the responsibility to use, and the responsibility to dispose, and I felt that we must raise our awareness of the “responsibility to dispose.”
